Please note: - Reference to a prompt means prompting the operator for input. When referring to the system, the context is general in nature. (The Computer, Operating System and Byte Designs software as one unit). If a section is singled out the reference will be more specific, referring to the actual component of the system, e.g.: Computer Hardware, Operating System, etc.
It is usually necessary to press the ENTER/RETURN key to terminate input at a prompt. The exception are single dot (.) prompts indicated by a single dot '.' showing next to the prompt line.
The Edit prompt, or menu selections showing a single dot, require that only a single key be pressed. Y/N prompts are normally 'single dot' prompts where you only press Y or N.
Confirmation prompts are indicated by three dots and require YES, OK or NO as the entry. You do not have to enter the reply in UPPER case, if your keyboard is set to lower case the software will convert as necessary.
If you are unsure whether the input requires the ENTER key or not, simply pause momentarily and see whether the cursor will remain where the input was terminated or whether the system has already continued to the next task.
A type ahead feature is available to you at all times. This allows you to type some characters ahead, while the system is processing. The input is stored and used as requested by the system. You may enter a whole string of commands such as an account number search and edit and as long as the sequence is being followed properly. The system will eventually catch up with your keyboard entries.
CAUTION, if ENTER/RETURN is pressed when not required, the key will be considered type-ahead, saved and used at the next input request.
