Alternate Part Numbers

Alternating part numbers are a System option that must be `turned on' while Personalizing your System.

An `Alternate' is a `this fits too' number that has its own inventory record. Any part number can have an unlimited number of `Alternates'. (Restricted only by hard disk space available).

To set up an Alternate: call up a part number as you normally would. - The cursor will be positioned at the Edit prompt.

F6

Press the F6 key and the Alternating window will be displayed:

Any alternate already set up for the part would appear in the `alternate window'.

Part number, description, product group, quantity and prices of each `Alternate' would also be displayed. To `see' the prices use the RIGHT arrow to scroll the window sideways.

Call up an Alternate

Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight the number you want, press ENTER, and the System will call up the selected number and take you back to the Edit prompt with the `Alternate' on your screen as if you had entered that part number originally.

Add an Alternate

F9

Press the F9 key to add an' Alternate'.

Type in the part number you want as an `Alternate'. If the part number is found the description and product group will be displayed so that you may confirm that it is the correct part.

Please Note: the Part number you want as an alternate MUST ALREADY exist in the inventory master file. If the part number is not found you cannot add it at the alternate window. You must return to the inventory screen by pressing ESC ESC, add the part number and come back to the alternate window. (Subject to change in a future release).

Regular Alternate/Interchange

F2

Pressing the F2 key will add the part to the alternate list and also set up the reverse - the part numbers will be `Alternates' of each other.

One-way Alternate

F3

Using the F3 key to add the part to the alternate list establishes the list `one-way' only.

The one way alternate is useful when you are trying to sell stock from a number that has been replaced, i.e. last year's SP12 is this years SP12A.

We would want SP12A to be an Alternate for SP12 so that we can sell all of the SP12's first. We may not want to show SP12 as an Alternate to SP12A.

Once all old stock is sold we may delete SP12 or make it a `Supersede'.

Delete an Alternate

To delete an `Alternate' from the list, use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight the Alternate you want to delete and press the asterisk (*) key. (Hold the SHIFT key while pressing the number 8/* key)
