Duplicate Part Numbers

Allowing duplicate part numbers enables you to maintain inventory the same as your supplier even when different suppliers assign the same number to different items.

While a duplicate number looks identical to you and me, the System uses the `duplicate counter' to make the number unique. Once a part number/duplicate counter has been created the two pieces make up the actual part number.

When looking up part number's that have duplicates the window that will present all of the same number will have the duplicates in sequence of the duplicate counter. The number that was entered first will appear at the top, then the number with counter 1, 2, 3, etc. If you delete the part number with counter number 2, the others will remain as they are and 2 will be used the next time you add a duplicate to this part number.

The System will make the number unique by adding a `behind the scenes' number referred to as `duplicate counter'. - You do not have to remember this number. Whenever more than one of any part number exists the System will display all duplicates with their appropriate description, product group, quantity and pricing in a window.

You will notice that the `duplicate number' is printed in the top left corner of your screen. There will be times when you must use the number, such as when setting up supersedes and/or alternates.

Any time the part number on your screen is not `the only one' in the master file, meaning the `duplicate counter' is not zero, the added number will be displayed in the top left corner of your screen.

The UP/DOWN arrows are used to highlight the number you want. After you highlight the number you want, press the ENTER key. The System will get the appropriate record and display it the same as any other part number.
